Chapter 8 – Biblical Healing Foundations
Why This Chapter Exists
You may be wondering why a chapter on Biblical healing is included on a website devoted to cancer care. The answer is simple. Everything presented throughout this web site is built upon my conviction that God has provided two complementary provisions for healing: the natural resources He placed within His creation and His supernatural power made available through faith, prayer, and His promises.
Whether you are a committed Christian, someone searching for answers, or simply curious about why I hold these convictions, you are welcome here. My purpose is not to pressure you into accepting my beliefs, but to explain the Biblical foundation from which I approach cancer care. I encourage you to read with an open mind, carefully consider the evidence presented, and then make the decisions you believe are best for your own situation. I invite you to step into this adventure with me. You are not alone. If you have questions, need encouragement, or simply want someone to walk alongside you for a while, I would be honored to do that.
My Guiding Principle
My job is not to tell you what to think; my job is to teach you how to think about discerning and judging what is the best cancer care options for your personal health situation.
God’s Two Provisions
I believe God has provided two complementary provisions for healing. The first is found in the natural resources He has placed throughout His creation—foods, plants, animals, minerals, and other naturally occurring substances that help nourish, protect, and support the body. The second is His supernatural provision through faith, prayer, intercession, and the promises of His Word. In my understanding, these two provisions are not in conflict with one another. Rather, they are compatible and complementary expressions of God’s loving care for mankind.
Why I Believe This
For more than four decades I worked as a Registered Respiratory Therapist in emergency rooms, intensive care units, and ventilator units. During those years I witnessed tremendous dedication, compassion, and life-saving medical care. I also came to realize that there were questions about health and healing that extended beyond what I had been taught in conventional medicine. That realization began a lifelong search to better understand God’s amazing design and reason for giving us for the human body, the resources He placed within His creation, and the promises found in His Word. This website is the result of that continuing journey.
A Calling That Changed My Life
Nearly forty years ago, I believe God impressed upon my heart these words:
“Speak Life and Light and Blessing into areas of death and darkness.”
Those words have remained with me ever since. Over the years I have come to understand that this calling extends far beyond physical disease. Cancer often brings fear, uncertainty, discouragement, and a sense of darkness into a person’s life. My desire through this outreach is to help shine light, life & blessing into that darkness by offering hope, practical information, encouragement, and for those who desire it, the Biblical foundation that has guided my own life.
The Role of Scripture in This Website
The Bible is foundational to my understanding of life, health, healing, and the character of God. While this website discusses many natural approaches to cancer care, my worldview is ultimately shaped by Scripture. I do not believe science and Biblical faith are in competition. Rather, I believe that honest scientific investigation and God’s revealed truth can complement one another when both are pursued with humility and integrity.
Throughout this website, I encourage readers to examine the available evidence carefully, think critically, ask questions, and make informed decisions. For those who share my faith, I also encourage prayerfully seeking God’s wisdom and guidance as part of that decision-making process.
Questions Worth Considering
As I continued studying both Scripture and the natural world, I found myself asking questions like these. I invite you to consider them for yourself.
- If God created the human body with remarkable healing abilities, what role does He intend us to play in caring for it?
- If God has placed beneficial resources throughout His creation, should we thoughtfully explore them rather than ignore them?
- If God has provided both natural and supernatural provisions for healing, why would we assume we must choose one and reject the other?
- How might faith, prayer, wise medical care, and the responsible use of natural resources work together rather than compete with one another?
- Could combining these natural and supernatural provisions help more of my body’s metabolic pathways work in support of my fight against cancer?
Biblical Promises That Have Shaped My Journey
The following Scriptures have encouraged and strengthened my faith over many years. I do not present them merely as verses to read, but as promises that have influenced the way I think about God, hope, healing, and prayer. I encourage you to read each passage in its full context and prayerfully consider what it means.
God’s Presence Isaiah 41:10 “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” *When people receive a cancer diagnosis, fear is often the first battle. This promise has reminded me that God does not abandon us in our darkest moments.
God’s Wisdom James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.” *Cancer patients are often faced with difficult decisions. I believe God invites us to seek His wisdom as we evaluate our options.
God’s Healing Isaiah 53:5 “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed. *This was and still is a main stay for healing by the completely complete work of Jesus Christ.
Jeremiah 30:17 “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds, declares the Lord, ‘because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.’
Psalm 103:2–3 “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.“
Matthew 8:17 “He Himself took away our weaknesses and infirmities and bore away our diseases.“
*Each one of these are promises from the Word of God is telling us what He has already done. We are further encouraged to recognized God’s faithfulness in each of these promises. Each one of these matters to me because I have seen God’s faithfulness in my own life and it has saved me from death and severe sickness. It is very important for these truths to be applied and out loud if possible.
God’s Peace Philippians 4:6-7 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.“
1st Thessalonians. 5:23 “May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” *I have had very disturbing matters and situations regarding health matters come up in my life and have gained confidence and God’s peace knowing He is with me.
Hope from God Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” *I could have never made in many areas of life in War, sickness or other distresses of life if I did not have that God and His Word have given to me all along the way.
Finally, as I have walked with people facing serious illness, I have am convinced that one of the greatest battles is not simply physical. It is the battle against fear, desperation, discouragement, and hopelessness. For those reasons, I believe it is essential to become familiar with the promises and faithfulness of God revealed in Scripture. My prayer is that these promises will encourage you, strengthen your faith, and remind you that you are never alone. If you are a Christian you already know that “Your body is a “TEMPLE FOR THE HOLY SPIRIT Who is in you.” 1st Cor. 6:19. Consequently, you have a personal responsibility to take care of your temple/body so you can fulfill your calling written in your personal book by GOD Himself before He created the earth. To do that, you can employ both natural and supernatural methods to keep your temple in good health using God’s complete healing package!
“But knowledge puffs up while love builds up.” 1st Cor. 8:1 while at the same time, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” Hosea 4:6 We can walk in both by not getting puffed up or prideful while using the knowledge we have available to maintain a healthy body.
Spiritual Discernment and Counterfeit Healing Practices
As I have studied both health and Scripture over many years, I have become convinced that not every spiritual experience or healing practice has the same source. The Bible repeatedly encourages believers to exercise discernment and to “test the spirits” rather than accepting every spiritual claim without careful examination. Because of that, I believe spiritual discernment is just as important as medical discernment.
For that reason, I encourage readers to evaluate spiritual practices as carefully as they evaluate medical treatments. Throughout this website, I recommend seeking God’s wisdom and measuring every spiritual teaching or practice against the truth of Scripture. Just because something “appears to work” does not necessarily mean its source is consistent with God’s character and His Word.
My purpose in sharing these thoughts is not to create fear, but to encourage discernment. I believe God has provided everything we need through the complete work of Jesus Christ on the cross to pursue both wisdom and healing without seeking spiritual power from dark sources that are inconsistent with His Word.
There are also alternative healthcare practices that I believe deserve careful spiritual discernment because they are often presented as legitimate simply because “they work.” This can leave people wondering who they can trust and which claims are truly consistent with Biblical truth. Unfortunately, some alternative healing practices have deep roots in occult traditions, false gods and religions, or spiritual beliefs that are not consistent with Biblical Christianity. The Apostle Paul warned that some would depart from the faith by following “deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons” (1 Timothy 4:1–2). I believe this warning calls Christians to exercise great discernment.
In my opinion, some of these practices have been repackaged in ways that deceive to make their dark spiritual origins less obvious. That is why I encourage readers to carefully investigate the origins and underlying philosophy of any healing practice before embracing it and opening a door to it in your life.

My Personal Experiences
I have not arrived at these convictions simply by reading books. Over the years, I have personally encountered several situations that taught me the importance of spiritual discernment. Some occurred before I became a Christian, and others happened afterward. Each one reinforced for me the importance of carefully examining the spiritual source behind practices that claim supernatural power.
Before I Became a Christian Before I became a Christian, I became involved in several practices without understanding their spiritual implications. Looking back, I now believe these experiences taught me valuable lessons about deception and the importance of discernment.
(A) Automatic Writing I became involved in automatic writing without realizing what was happening. My hand seemed to take on a life of its own and began writing pages of information. At the time, I did not understand the spiritual nature of what I was experiencing. Looking back, I now believe this was a deception that I should never have allowed into my life.
(B) Table Tipping I also participated in a table-tipping session with my older sister, who was interested in the teachings of Edgar Cayce and Jean Dixon. At the time, I did not fully understand what I was participating in. Looking back, I came to see it as very similar to using a Ouija board—seeking answers from spiritual sources other than God. Because of what the Scriptures teach, I now know this is a door that Christians should never intentionally open.
After I became a Christian
A) Water Witching
After I became a Christian, I asked a man to help locate an underground drain line on our property. He used a Y-shaped branch in the practice commonly known as water witching or dowsing and located the line immediately. Although the result appeared successful, the experience caused me to ask a much deeper question: “What was the source of the power behind it?” That question became an important part of my journey in learning Biblical discernment.
(B) Praying for a Woman with Back Pain
I once prayed for a woman who was suffering from severe back pain. I assumed it was appropriate to pray for her without first asking about her spiritual beliefs. Later I learned that she was a Jehovah’s Witness. Looking back, I realized I had acted presumptuously instead of seeking God’s wisdom first. After I confessed this to the Lord and repented, the back pain I had developed completely disappeared. That experience taught me another important lesson about humility, discernment, and the importance of seeking God’s guidance before ministering to others.
(C) A Lesson I Never Forgot
We held a deliverance prayer meeting in our home with about thirty people in attendance. During the meeting, we took our 18-month-old son to stay with a babysitter. There was a wonderful sense of freedom for many who attended that evening.
However, after we brought our son home, something changed. He cried uncontrollably every night for several weeks, something he had never done before. Finally, we took him to our pastor, who, along with another mature believer, prayed for him. After that prayer, our son immediately returned to sleeping peacefully as he always had before.
That experience made a deep impression on me. Rightly or wrongly, I came away believing that spiritual influences and attacks are real and that discernment and prayer are essential when dealing with spiritual matters. I learned a lesson.
So, Automatic Writing, Table Tipping and Water Witching did appear to work.
My question to myself was then, “How gray does it have to get before it turns BLACK on me?” And, if something appears to work, does that automatically mean it comes from God?
Regarding the idea that some of this works, in the Old Testament we have the example of Pharaoh’s magicians who came against Moses with them turning water into blood, they also made frogs over-run the land. We know Jannes and Jambres turned their staffs into serpents.
Then in the New Testament there was the slave girl who earned much for her keepers through fortune telling who harassed Paul and Silas. And again the words she spoke for those many days were true but she lost her ability when the fortune telling demon was driven out of her by Paul. So again we see that just because something works does not necessarily mean it is from God.
Deuteronomy 18:10-13 10″Let no one be found among you who sacrifices their son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, 11 or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritualist or who consults the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord; because of these same detestable practices the Lord your God will drive out those nations before you. 13 You must be blameless before the Lord your God.”
These practices are not presented as harmless curiosities but as things His people were instructed to avoid. This passage has greatly influenced my own understanding of spiritual discernment and reinforces my conviction that Christians should carefully examine the spiritual source behind any practice that claims supernatural power or guidance.
2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 9″The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie, 10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.” This significant passage that has greatly influenced my thinking. In these verses, Paul warns that there will be supernatural signs, wonders, and deceptions that do not come from God. He reminds us that deception can be powerful enough to lead people away from the truth if they are unwilling to love and embrace it.
This passage has reinforced my conviction that the presence of supernatural power or unusual experiences should never, by themselves, be accepted as proof that something is from God. Every claim should be tested against the truth of Scripture.

Just because something appears to work is not, by itself, sufficient validation—especially for the Christian.

Don’t rely solely on the claim that “it works.” Instead, ask where it came from, what it teaches, and whether it is consistent with the truth of Scripture. And ask, am I really willing to open this door into my life?

The most important question is not simply, “Does it work?”
The more important questions are:
- Why does it work?
- What or who is the source of its power in this practice or procedure?
- Is that source consistent with the truth of Scripture?
Those are the questions I believe every Christian should ask before embracing any practice that claims supernatural power or healing.
I believe Hebrews 5:14 beautifully summarizes the importance of spiritual discernment:
“But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”
