Baking Soda (Sodium Bicarbonate, NaHCO3)

How Much do I take? – Mix 2 -3 teaspoons of baking soda with 2-3 tablespoons of either maple syrup, molasses or honey in 16 ounces of water daily to start. You can mix up several bottles and refrigerate. Drink 8 ounces in the AM and remaining 8 ounces in the PM. START SLOWLY by gradually increasing the ounces taken each day to achieve the pH goal explained below.

What is the pH Goal? – To get the pH of your urine up to 8.0 for 6 days by testing the urine 2 or 3 times a day with easily obtained pH testing strips. Use pH testing strips, to increase or decrease your dose in ounces from the 16 ounce bottle. Your urine pH is your speedometer. Why does a higher Alkaline pH work against Cancers ?

1. One of the hallmarks of cancer cells is that they produce large amounts of lactic acid because cancer metabolize sugars inefficiently and promotes an acidic pH below 7.0 (on the 1 to 14 scale) in the micro-environment of the cancer cells and tumor. Cancer cells/tumors thrive in this acidic environment and gobble up sugars at a rate about 15 times greater than normal cells. METFORMIN
Metformin, is the drug that is currently the most prescribed
medication in the world for control of type 2 diabetes. Its power in
this regard appears to reflect its ability to activate an enzyme
known as activated protein kinase (AMPK). AMPK
functions as a kind of cellular fuel gauge, becoming activated
and signaling when the high-energy ATP is in short supply.
AMPK causes cells to burn more fuel to generate ATP
while suppressing non-essential cellular activities that use
ATP. In the liver of people with diabetes, AMPK spares ATP by
slowing the rate at which liver cells produce and release
glucose. One of the reasons diabetics’ blood sugar levels are
chronically high is that their livers consistently produce too much

at which the liver releases glucose. This is thought to be the
chief way in which it is helpful in diabetics.

Now, what about Metformin and cancer? Interest in
Metformin as an agent for preventing and controlling cancer
was triggered by epidemiological studies examining cancer
rates in diabetics. Diabetics tend to be more cancer-prone than
non-diabetics, and have poorer prognoses when they get
cancer. However, studies found that diabetics treated with
Metformin, compared with diabetics treated with other drugs,
were less likely to develop several types of cancers–breast,
prostate, colon, lung, pancreatic and liver.
When researchers focused on diabetics who already
had cancer, in many studies, they found that the those
taking Metformin had longer survivals than the ones not
taking it.

A key to the Metformin ability to prevent and restrain cancer
is its capacity to inhibit the enzyme mammalian
target of rapamycin complex (mTORC1) which is chronically activated in most cancers.
This complex causes cancerous cells to increase their production
of proteins that boost cancer cell multiplication, enables cells to invade
surrounding tissues, and create new blood vessels that feed the tumor
(angiogenesis). It also prevents apoptosis, the cell-suicide
mechanism. Apoptosis helps prevent cancers by killing off
pre-cancerous old or worn out cells that have damage to their DNA.
These findings gave rise to multiple studies in which mice with poor immune systems were
implanted with various human tumors and were treated with Metformin.
In many though not all of these studies, Metformin was found to
slow cancer growth. Other studies examined the interaction
of Metformin with chemotherapy or radiotherapy in animal
tumor models. Many of these studies found that chemotherapy
and radiotherapy were more effective for killing tumor cells and
restraining cancer growth when Metformin was co-administered.
While Metformin’s ability to improve conventional oncology treatments is partially and indirectly do to its boosting cellular capacity for apoptosis (the programmed death of old and worn out cells which have the ability to turn into cancer cells and tumors), it is now clear that this ability also reflects Metformin’s ability to increase the vulnerability of cancer stem cells to therapy.
