Growing Faith by Declaring God’s Promises
Why Faith Matters
The purpose of this chapter is not to persuade anyone to repeat words mechanically, but to encourage believers to understand, believe, and confidently declare God’s promises as an expression of their faith in Him. If there is one thing I hope grows as you read this chapter, it is your confidence in God’s faithfulness to keep every one of His promises.
A diagnosis of cancer often brings fear, uncertainty, and countless unanswered questions. My prayer is that as you spend time reading, believing, and declaring God’s promises, your faith in Him will become stronger, your peace will increase, and your fear will gradually give way to hope.
Hebrews 11:6 reminds us: “Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.”
Throughout this outreach I have emphasized that God has provided both natural and supernatural means of healing to help those facing cancer and other serious illnesses. This chapter focuses on the supernatural provision of prayer and the declaration of God’s promises found in Scripture. Together, they are intended to strengthen your faith, encourage your heart, and deepen your confidence in God’s faithfulness.
These prayers and declarations are not intended to be empty words or religious formulas. Rather, they are expressions of faith in God’s character, His faithfulness, and His promises. I encourage you to pray thoughtfully, sincerely, and with confidence in the goodness of God. As you pray, remember that you are bringing your heart into agreement with God’s Word and placing your trust in His promises. I believe God hears, responds to, and delights in the sincere prayers of those who come to Him with humility and faith.
If you are not a Christian, you are still welcome to read this chapter. My hope is that it will help you better understand why prayer has become such an important part of my own journey and why I believe it should never be separated from wisdom, discernment, and appropriate medical care.
Speak Life, Light and Blessing
Nearly forty years ago, I believe God impressed upon my heart a simple but life-changing calling:
“Speak Life, Light and Blessing into areas of death and darkness.”
Those words have remained with me ever since and continue to guide the purpose of this outreach. Throughout my 47 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, I sought to speak those words into the lives of my patients. Today, it is my privilege to continue speaking those same words to you.
It is my desire that every page of this website will encourage you, strengthen your faith, and bring hope to you and your family as you face cancer or walk alongside someone you love.
Before You Begin
If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, I encourage you, whenever possible, to speak these prayers and declarations out loud. Throughout Scripture, faith is often expressed not only by believing in the heart but also by speaking with the mouth.
As you thoughtfully declare God’s promises, your surroundings are filled with words of faith, hope, and confidence in God. You are expressing your trust in His faithfulness and bringing your heart into agreement with His Word.
These are not empty words or religious formulas, but sincere expressions of faith offered to God. My prayer is that as you declare His promises, your confidence in His love, faithfulness, and power will continue to grow
Confession for Overcomers (Read aloud when possible)
My body is a temple of the Holy Spirit (1).
I have been redeemed (2), cleansed (3), and sanctified by the blood of Jesus Christ (4).
Every part of my body is an instrument of righteousness (5), yielded to God for His service and for His glory.
The devil has no place in me and no unsettled claims against me. Every claim has been settled by the blood of Jesus (6).
I overcome Satan by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of my testimony, and I do not love my life even unto death (7).

What the Blood of Jesus Has Accomplished for Us
Read Aloud When Possible
The devil has no defense against the finished work of Jesus Christ at the Cross. These truths are real fire power against the devil!
Jesus was punished that we might be forgiven. (1)
Jesus was wounded that we might be healed. (2)
Jesus was made sin with our sinfulness so that we might be made righteous with His righteousness. (3)
Jesus died our death that we might receive His life. (4)
Jesus was made a curse so that we might enter into all the blessings of Abraham. (5)
Jesus endured our poverty that we might share in His abundance. (6)
Jesus bore our shame that we might share in His glory. (7)
Jesus endured our rejection that we might receive His acceptance with the Father. (8)
Jesus was cut off that we might be joined to God eternally. (9)
Our old self was put to death with Him so that the new person might come to life in us. (10)

Driving Out Fear
Because a diagnosis of cancer often brings fear, uncertainty, and anxious thoughts, I encourage you to read and declare the following Scriptures aloud whenever possible. My prayer is that they will strengthen your faith, renew your mind, and remind you that God has not abandoned you.
2 Timothy 1:7
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
1 John 4:18
“There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear…”
2 Corinthians 10:3–5
“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Throughout this website I have emphasized that I believe God has provided both natural and supernatural means to help those facing cancer. Faith does not replace wisdom. Wisdom does not replace faith. God has provided both. In the next chapter we will begin exploring many of those natural options and how to evaluate them carefully and thoughtfully.
